The past few months I have logged over 500 miles riding my bike on a stationary trainer, looking to stay fit and keep the winter pounds from packing on. One way of passing the time was watching documentaries by streaming them from Netflix (on a free trial). Slim the waistline and expand the mind…was my theory. I was also astounded by what I learned about food, health and how the body works. I invite you to partake in theses movies and make your own conclusions for you and your family.
First I stumbled onto Food Inc. The film Food Inc. sheds light onto the drastic changes of our food chain over the past few decades. It demonstrates how a handful of corporations control the food chain and how they repeatedly put profit ahead of consumer health. It also demonstrates how the genetically engineered vegetables and animals have helped to catapult current generations into illness, diabetes and obesity. I was surprised to learn there are new strains of E coli killing people and the USDA is powerless to shut down the plants. In some cases if they just fed the Steer grass for seven days the cows would clean themselves of the bacteria. The film also touches on buying local foods and the expense in shipping and hauling foods coast to coast that has become the norm. There is much great information here that people should see and further research. Here is a link to the movies website http://www.foodincmovie.com/
Next I watched King Corn.. Food Inc. had touched on the fact animals were being fed corn versus grass and the unhealthy effects it has on them. They explain how this effects people. King Corn explains the entire process of Corn, how it is grown and subsidized, and how it gets used in absolutely everything. They also touch on the health issues of consuming all this corn product that provides no solid nutritional value. http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/kingcorn/
These films confirmed my worries and summations that so many engineered and processed foods have become so intertwined with a typical Americans eating habits it is no wonder people lack energy, are sick, and are overweight. Even if one tries to “do the right thing” by eating diet products and raw foods you are often faced with artificial sweeteners and chemicals that are really harmful to you.
I watched The Beautiful Truth. A story as told through he eyes of a 15 year old Alaskan boy. This movie touches on many of the same issues as raised in Food Inc and King Corn, chemicals used in foods and food processing, genetically modified seeds, and how these toxins over time accumulate and stress the body, causing illnesses. This movie also outlines the Gerson Therapy and shows the basis for Dr. Max Gerson’s work for the treatment of illness and cancer. The Gerson Therapy philosophy uses organic raw vegetables, fresh juices, and liver detoxification via coffee enema to allow the body to do it’s natural work and heal. Once healed one can maintain a healthy diet and detoxification is not needed. The movie provides a good insight into Gerson Therapy and includes interviews with many practitioners / patients who have healed from various illness and cancers. The Movie website is here http://www.thebeautifultruthmovie.com/
I went to the Gerson Institute website to learn more about the therapy and ordered some books and DVDs get the details. The Gerson Therapy came about as a means to stop Dr. Gerson’s migraines, then as he researched he found it healed many things including tuberculous, arthritis and cancer. Some may view holistic healing of cancers and disease as poppycock and tomfoolery. To me the concept isn’t radical when you consider you are nourishing your body, detoxifying it, and empowering it to do what is was designed to do. Isn’t that what pharmaceuticals try to do with a pill? In the film they show cases where people have been written off by “modern medicine” and after treatments told to simply get things in order. Many of these people speak and share there stories of how 5, 10, 20, 30 years earlier they were given weeks to live with metastasized cancer all over their body and bones, but after adopting the Gerson therapy are here telling there stories. The oldest survivor is like 86 years young. The Gerson Institute website is here http://www.gerson.org/
People are free to make up there own minds about what is right for them and how best to lead ones life. We all control what we put into our bodies, and we all vote every time we place a dollar down at the grocery store. If you want real Organic vegetables consider a local organic farmer and purchase a CSA. You can buy CSA’s for free roaming meats as well as Diary products. You can learn more about CSA’s here http://www.localharvest.org/csa/ .
Education is key, knowledge is Power… Please watch these movies, do your own research and make your own conclusions about your health and your life. My point for putting this out there is to make people aware you Do Have Choices, and your voting each and every time you buy foods and services.
You truly are what you Eat!….. May You All Stay Healthy!
Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.
