Got a tip on this one, some great pictures of soap bubbles. I know seems and odd subject but they are really cool.

  • This Is The Year For Competition

Well… It’s the middle of winter and to avoid the ominous potential of expanding the waistline with inactivity I have made a habit of eating better, visiting the gym, getting regular bike rides in on the trainer and a few jogs here and there. So far this year I have lost 20 pounds, getting me nearly back to September of last year weight wise. This is all encouraging and I hope the weight keeps dropping as the intensity keeps rising.

In an effort to have goals and make fun of the workouts I have thought of raising the bar and making them Training. I am currently looking to enter a Duathlon where I can -  run / bike / run.  This differs from a Triathlon where one swims, bikes, and runs. The swimming would be the most challenging for me, (more…)

  • Colts Glorious Decade Ends?

Hey Colts fans there is always next year!  I saw the headline at the Indy Star stating the Colt glorious decade ends. The Colts have always put together a good team and they are competitive. However any reference to a “Team of the Decade” is misplaced in my opinion. All the Colts fans i know love to throw out numbers such as most 8-0 starts, most Monday Night Foot Ball wins, all sorts of crap like that. The only stat that matters is the Superbowl victories, that’s why EVERYONE puts the pads on.

  • Snowshoe Without The Snow?

I don’t want to jinx everyone in New England but perhaps it’s too late. I have been wanting to get up to the mountains and do some Snowshoeing but the weather just has been so uncooperative. Lately we have hardly gotten any snow, leaving me to think that to head-up a mountain trail would require crampons for ice versus snowshoes.

My take is if we are going to have some cold weather, give us enough snow so we can fully enjoy it. Locally the fields and tote roads are mostly bare and have been so it seems most of the winter except for a brief spell . You can’t  even cross country ski or sled. So mother nature if your reading, warm it up and start spring or give us a little bit of snow so we can have some fun…

UNC Rollback – Active Directory Fix

I recently had peculiar set of  events leave me with a single AD Server placing  it into a UNC Rollback state.  I replaced the server with a back-up image, tried restoring the System State in DSRM, no luck. Every avenue I tried left the system in the same state upon reboot. After hours and many failed attempts this was the last remedy for me…

Restored the Image of the Server (to put the system back to square one) then restored the system state in DSRM, this did NOT work (still in UNC) , opened REGEDIT and deleted the key

    “Dsa Not Writable” under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters

Upon reboot the Active Directory services started and netlogon and the balance came up as expected. Obviously reg edits are at your own peril. I couldn’t find any work around solutions on the web other than rebuilding Active Directory from scratch and that really isn’t a solution at all in my book. So if your faced with a similar problem give this a shot, let me know if it helps you too.

The environment is operating in mixed mode and this was on a Win2K server SP4.
