Well…it had to happen…after 115,000 miles i had to put a set of brakes on the front of the Beetle. I am not to upset though for 134,000 miles it has been a good car, and M & D auto in Lebanon does very good work at a fair price.
I had been babying the brakes for a while saving the pennies for, pads and rotors and some other bits was $226.00. If I can roll another 100,000 in this i will be happy.
My 1999 beetle has been a great car and i still get about 411 miles on a 12.7 gal tank. It’s sporty but not a sports car, and roomy but not a wagon. I still look back at how i used to think “I will never drive one of those”, I only wish i had started driving them sooner. Keeping my fingers crossed…

Well in looking through my workout logs, I just crossed 1000 miles for the season! I know the Tour de France covers some 2300 miles is 21 days, but I am no Lance Armstrong. I find it a bit remarkable looking back over the months and seeing my progress. Not only do I feel stronger physically but I know my heart and mind are all the better for it as well. I don’t have any aspirations of racing or anything like that although a Duathlon is surely in my future. I have had some issues with tweeks to the knee but overall I get stronger and faster every week and amazing enough a little lighter as well.
I didn’t set out with any specific goal other than to be active and continue to improve my health each and every day. Cycling to me was a way to extend my excersise activity outside and it has far less impact on my joints than running. I further like the true speed at which one can cover ground versus running or mountain biking. I started using a Lemond Spinner at the gym which has a weighted wheel. This stationary bike could be adjusted to fit and always provided a high sweat factor for the effort. Cycling was just an outdoor extension of that workout but is so much more enjoyable.
I can’t reccomend cycling enough as a means of exercise and fun….

Every so often I inventory my methods for managing my daily data like to do lists, tasks, appointments etc. I am always looking for ways to make things easier to manage and review what technologies can help in the endeavor. Most recently with my purchase of the Iphone I have been looking for the one killer app to allow me to brain dump and collect thoughts and cool web finds. What i am settling toward is a combination of a few applications that integrate well together.
Google services Gmail, Calender, Docs and Picasa have become my primary presence online. Accessible and integrated to my Iphone this provides me the one stop two way service anyone would expect. Anyone who puts down Iphone’s email (more…)

The Stadig Genealogy website has been updated to version 4.2 of PHPGED View. This was done to prepare for the next major release coming in a month or so. The update provides for many more interactive interface features and reports. The coming version will have many many more updates.
The people involved with developing PHPGEDVIEW are really pushing the envelope of what is possible with a solid free framework for genealogy and the feature list keep growing. Anyone considering a web based Genealogy application should consider it, and the community on soundforge is active and helpfull.
The application has sure helped with research and organization of the Stadig Genealogy record.
